The Seventh-day Adventist Church’s District of Rukomo was established in 1977, originally comprising of 325 church members organized in three churches (Ruyonza, Rukomo, and Rurenge). Over the past 45 years, the district has grown to have 7,786 members organized in the sectors of Gatunda, Mukama, and Rukomo. During this time, the Kabuga sector was also added to the district. The District of Rukomo has a total population of 36,387, In the Gatunda sector, 27,846. the Mukama sector, and 42,978 in the Rukomo sector.
Despite this growth, the Adventist Church’s ministry in the district is still relatively small compared to the population of the district, with an average of one Adventist for every 14 people. But as the scripture says in Matthew 28:19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” The district continues to pray and work diligently to expand the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s ministry in the region through the formation of new churches and companies in the communities, trusting that God will continue to bless their efforts and bring more people to salvation through Jesus Christ.
