Rukara was established in 2003 as part of the Gakoni District. It started with 5 churches and 3 companies. Currently, it has 10 churches and 7 companies. It started with a membership of 1600 and now has 5,346 members. It operates in three sectors: Rukara, Gahini and Murundi. The Rukara sector has a population of 54,748, the Gahini sector has 58,974 and the Murundi sector has 55,301.
